At Wilbury we are proud to have been providing an Orthopaedic referral service for over 29 years. Our Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Orthopaedics Peter Haggis is committed to providing the highest standards of care for cats and dogs.
What to expect if my pet is referred?
The starting point for patients referred to Wilbury is a detailed discussion with the owner and an examination of the patient. Diagnosing the cause of lameness often requires further investigations which may include diagnostic imaging and arthroscopy (a technique in which a small camera is inserted into a joint).
Our Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Orthopaedics, Peter Haggis treats a wide variety of orthopaedic problems in dogs and cats, including lameness and trauma. The most common causes of lameness seen at Wilbury includes rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament in the knee joint, and hip and elbow dysplasia. Trauma patients often sustain fractures and joint injuries.
Orthopaedic surgery requires very high levels of sterile technique to minimise the possibility of post-operative infection. Our operating theatres are equipped and managed to the highest of standards, enabling our surgeon to provide the best chance of an excellent outcome for their patients.
Stem cell treatment is now offered at Wilbury for treatment of arthritis which is showing promising results in many cases. This is particularly suitable for younger patients before the disease has progressed too far.
