What is a referral?
Many of us will have been referred to a Consultant by our GP when we have more complex health issues. Veterinary medicine is similar to human medicine, in that there are occasions when your own vet may need to refer your pet to someone with more expertise in a particular area.
How to arrange a referral?
To arrange a referral to Wilbury simply speak with your own Vet who will then need to complete our online referral form and provide us with any relevant notes and tests results. Once received our team will then contact you to arrange an appointment.
What happens if my pet has been referred?
Your vet will contact us with details of your pet’s medical condition and their recommendation for referral. Copies of your pet’s clinical history, and your contact details will then be sent on to us.
Our team will contact you to arrange the referral appointment time, but if there are any please contact us on 01273 737 924.
Things to remember before arriving for your appointment:
- Please do not feed your pet from 10pm the evening before surgery. You may be asked to feed a small meal at 7am on the day for puppies or kittens under 12 weeks old. Rabbits should always have access to food
- Water is allowed up to the appointment
- Bring a few things to make your pet feel at home – for instance, their favourite food, a small toy or blanket – but please do not bring bulky beds
Medical Notes
Please check that your Vet has sent all relevant information, notes and X-rays to us in advance. Please bring any medication your pet is currently receiving.
Appointment Times
If you can’t make an appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can free up that time for someone else.
Terms of business
We will provide an estimate of the likely costs involved. However, the final costs (particularly in complex cases) may only become apparent at the end of treatment. Usually, the initial treatment is estimated prior to surgery and a guide of what ongoing expense there may be over several weeks can be given. All accounts must be settled in full at the time of your pet’s discharge from the practice.
We will, of course, be happy to complete your insurance forms for your reimbursement, if your pet is covered by medical insurance. If you would like us to claim directly from your insurers, this needs to be agreed by us in advance to allow time to speak to them. In addition, we charge a non-reclaimable fee of £31.50 for this service.
